Water, sink, faucet

BEMENT, Ill. (WAND) — As crews continue working to restore water service in Bement, local officials have set up an emergency water tanker for residents.

A tanker truck is now available at the Lions Club of Bement located at 117 S. Macon St., Bement, IL 61813. The site opened at 11:00 a.m. and will remain available for the public until further notice.

Residents are asked to bring their own clean containers, including jugs, buckets, or any portable vessels, to collect water for essential household needs. According to the Piatt County Emergency Management Agency, the water is suitable for hygiene, cleaning, and general non-consumption use.

Piatt County EMA said, the water is not confirmed safe for drinking or cooking unless it is boiled for at least one minute.

The tanker is being staffed and supported by the Bement Fire Department and Public Works crews as they continue working through the ongoing water system interruption.

Officials also encourage the community to check on neighbors, especially those who may have difficulty transporting water on their own.
