Water, sink, faucet

BEMENT, Ill. (WAND) — Crews have fixed the leak after a water main break left the Village of Bement without running water this weekend.

A boil order remains in effect until at least Wednesday.

People were able to stop by and get water Sunday at an emergency set up ran with the village's fire and public work's departments using a tanker truck.

The outage impacted about the entire population of Bement, about 1,500 residents.

A Facebook post by the Piatt County EMA said Sunday that a "leak" had been plugged. The post said the update was from the "public works director."

According to the post, wells were pumping and feeding water into the water tower and water mains.

A tanker truck was available at the Lions Club of Bement on Macon Street Sunday. It was expected to be made available to residents against starting at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Residents were told to bring their own containers. The water is primarily for cleaning and hygiene. It can only be used for consumption after boiling for at least one minute, according to the EMA on Facebook.

Officials encouraged the community to check on neighbors, especially those who might have difficulty transporting water on their own.

Bement is located in Piatt County. The village is located approximately 25 miles east of Decatur.
