DECATUR, IL- About 400 runners and walkers took off from St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur Saturday morning to remember Betsy Smith.
Betsy was the 22 year-old daughter of local doctors Dan and Jeanie Smith. She died after a traffic accident six years ago.
The run was started in her memory to raise money for needy children in Macon County and Marion, Indiana where Betsy went to school.
Betsy's mother Jeanie says helping children was her daughters calling.
The race raises between $16,000 and $18,000 each year. That money is split between the Macon County CASA charity and another charity in Marion.
