“The Federal government has designated tech hubs across the country and we are one of four in the entire nation that is already working in the biotechnology space,” IFAB Chief Strategy Officer Nicole Bateman told WAND News in Decatur on Thursday.
The IFAB hub will use corn and soybeans to develop products using microbes and corn dextrose to make a wide variety of everything from textiles to cosmetics.
The products being developed will also be used for national defense. Those include starter chemicals for munitions and synthetic blood.
The project is expected to eventually directly employ up to 10,000 people in Macon, Champaign and Piatt counties.
