DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Shanice Johnson, the owner Mini Queens, is in the business of making children feel beautiful, like a princess.

It was a dream of hers that took about a year to make into a reality. The inspiration of having her pink and gold establishment came from her daughter. Johnson wanted a space where her daughter could be comfortable.

"Usually a lot of kids cry and be scared and I don't want them to feel that way," Johnson said.

Not only is this a place where children can get their hair done, but it is also a spa and nail salon. The beautician said kids should experience something fancy, too. To Johnson, salons nowadays aren't about the children. She wished her kind of business was around while growing up.

"And if it was like this, I probably wouldn't be as scared to get my hair done [then]," Johnson said.

From braids to curls, seeing the kids leave happy with a new hairdo is what Johnson enjoys most. She said it is important to have businesses such as hers because there aren't similar establishments around.

It took Johnson about a year to create her business and Mini Queens has been open for less than six months. If one has a goal, Johnson said keep after it.Â
