Anticipation is growing as the return of the boat races inches closer.

"An event like this brings in people who might not choose to come to Decatur or they may have a different vision of Decatur from 20 years ago." said Moore-Wolfe.

"Having that hiatus and bringing back something like the boat races. really helps attract more events and more things to come to Decatur and something for all of us to look forward to." said, Mirinda Rothrock, President of Decatur Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Thousands of people are expected to be lakeside when the first heats of the "Hardy's Highway Race for the Lake" start Saturday June 8th.

And with thousands of visitors expected, comes an opportunity to show off what local businesses have to offer.

"A lot of our local vendors are excited to be down at the lake and show off what they offer. whether that is our food trucks or artisans and I think a great way to boost the economy thru our restaurants, hotels and gas stations." said Rothrock.

"Its a success story. and people want something fun to do and something different to do." said Moore-Wolfe.

With most of the fun taking part near the lake. Community leaders expect a big boost to the city.

"Restaurants are going to benefit. you know you have waterfront and the other restaurant across the street and the Beach House right here. I think that they are going to see a lot of impact since they are right here in the middle of it. So I'm sure a lot of people are going to be visiting them." said Ryan Huffer, Communications Coordinator, City of Decatur.

With the extra economic boost to the area. City leaders are looking to the future.

"Maybe it encourages other businesses to decide that hey this is where we want to invest in and there is other opportunities down here by the marina, down by the lake and this area and it's just going to be a great thing for Decatur." said Huffer.

The boat races are Saturday June 8th and Sunday June 9th.
