DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Illinois was one of 21 states where emailed bomb threats were sent Thursday.

Schools, hospitals and businesses across the nation had to evacuate buildings for safety measures.

A few of those emails came to central Illinois.

Threats were sent to Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur Manor Healthcare and A-Lert Construction. Urbana police said two emails were sent to the city. Both contained bomb threats. However, police didn't go into details as to where the emails were sent. An NBC affiliate in Peoria County reported two businesses received emails with bomb-threat emails. The emails turned out to be fake.

NBC was able to read a letter. The email said in part:

"I want to propose you a bargain. You pay me $20,000 in Bitcoin and an explosive will not detonate, but don't try to fool me."

Decatur Police confirmed the emails sent here were a hoax. The Macon County Sheriff's Office said it's working with the FBI and the state of Illinois to find whoever is responsible. Security experts tell NBC  they believe the emails came from accounts there "phished" and hacked.
