Champaign Wendy's shuts down

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - A Champaign Wendy's restaurant is shutting down.

Sunday was the last day the Wendy's in the 2000 block of S. Neil St. was open, the News Gazette reports.

Wendy's opened in the location in 2015 as part of a development that had included Brixx Wood Fired Pizza (which closed in Dec.) and Harvest Market, Ace Hardware, and Home2Suites by Hilton.

Some customers told the News Gazette they blame the awkward entrance to Wendy's as part of the issue. A roundabout intersection proved too much of a hassle, some said.

This is the second time a Wendy's has closed on Neil St.

The previous location in the 1900 block of Neil St. was open from 1978 to 2006.

There are still three Wendy's in the Champaign-Urbana area.
