Child Killed After Accident in Pleasant Plains

SANGAMON COUNTY, IL - A girl, 7, has died after a one-vehicle accident near Pleasant Plains Monday afternoon.

Deputies tell WAND News the accident took place just before 4:00 PM Monday on the 3500 block of Smith Road near Pleasant Plains. A man and a child were traveling south in a car when it left the road and veered into a ditch.

The girl was pronounced dead at St. Johns Hospital one hour after the accident. The man driving the vehicle was also transported to the hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
