DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — If you're planning on making a summer trip to the Scovill Zoo in Decatur, you might be surprised by what you see and hear.

There's plenty of cicadas flying amongst the trees. However, that's not the only new subject you'll find at the zoo. Monet, the goat delivered her baby twins last Friday and their names are quite fitting.

The zookeepers decided to stick with the theme of insects, naming the newest additions to the Zoo; Cicada and Katydid.

Director of the Scovill Zoo, Heather Purdeu said they've seen a definite increase in cicadas throughout the zoo, which has surprised some of their guests who haven't been around the insects.

While the bugs might be an annoyance and deter some from even visiting the zoo, Purdeu said many of the animals find them to be a tasty treat.

""Our peacocks, our chickens, our kookaburras, our lemurs love to eat the cicadas. Almost to the point now where they have gotten full and they are not eating them as much as they were at the beginning," Purdeu said.

Starting this month, every Thursday until the end of the season is completely free for anyone.
