The intersection is where Central A&M students Conner Rowcliff and Keegan Virden were killed in a car wreck in 2022.

A J-turn intersection requires drivers to make a right turn and then a U-turn to access the opposite lane.

There are currently stop signs on Leafland Street. Vehicles can move straight across U.S. 51, a typical stop sign-controlled intersection.

After the J-turn intersection is complete, there will still be stop signs on Leafland Street, but vehicles will not be able to move straight across U.S. 51.

Work on the $2.7 million project will start Monday, April 21. Work should wrap up in September.

The project will impact traffic. Drivers are told to pay close attention and watch for message boards and flaggers.
