MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) — A deadly crash happened Sunday in Coles County.

According to the Illinois State Police, the right lane of SB Interstate 57 was closed in Coles County near Mattoon following a two-vehicle crash near mile marker 187 around 1:10 p.m.

ISP told WAND News around 9:15 p.m.  the crash had ended as a two-unit, fatal crash.

They said the crash involved a semi and a pickup truck.

Around 1:10 p.m. on Sunday, ISP Troop 7 responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-57 near mile marker 187. They said when they arrived, they initially closed the right lane of I-57 and later closed all southbound lanes at mile marker 190 as well as the entrance ramp. Traffic was rerouted to Route 16 at that time.

As of 6:50 p.m. all lanes of I-57 southbound at mile marker 190 had reopened according to the ISP.

ISP had asked drivers to seek an alternate route during the closure.

ISP said the traffic on the interstate was diverted at the exit and was detoured through Mattoon.

IDOT assisted with traffic control.

ISP added the investigation into the accident is ongoing and there is no other information at this time to share to the public.
