CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — Eight people are in custody after the University of Illinois Police Department responded to a sexual assault reported Thursday morning.
According to UIPD, officers were at a home in the 50 block of East Springfield Avenue executing a search warrant.
The Champaign PD SWAT team was called in due to the potential of weapons and additional people inside.
Springfield Avenue between Neil Street and Second Street and First Street between Green Street and White Street, was closed at the time to set up a perimeter.
UIPD said that eight people are in custody during the investigation, which is currently ongoing.Â
Chantel Coad, 41, of Urbana, Blake Conyers, 53, of Champaign, and Jeffrey Milner, 37, of Champaign, were arrested on unrelated warrants.Â
