16-year-old killed, another teen injured in Champaign shooting

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - A 16-year-old boy was killed and a 17-year-old was injured in a shooting in Champaign Monday night.

Champaign police were called to N. McKinley Ave. and Paula Dr. at 9:31 p.m. for a shooting.

They found a 17-year-old boy with gunshot wounds to his torso. Officers were told a second victim may be in the area.

They searched and found a 16-year-old boy half a block north in the 1500 block of N. McKinley Ave. who had also been shot.

Both boys were rushed to the hospital, but the 16-year-old did not survive. The 17-year-old is in critical but stable condition.

Champaign police were in the area for several hours investigating and talking to potential witnesses. No arrests have been made.
