DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - A Danville man was found guilty by a Vermilion County jury of first-degree murder for a December 2024 shooting that left a person dead.

The Vermilion County State's Attorney said just before 11 p.m. on Dec. 21, 2024, Danville police found a person shot several times near Williams Street.

Police stated the investigation showed that the suspect, identified as Quartez Jackson, got out of a car, shot the victim multiple times and left the scene.

The victim called for help before the car returned, where witnesses heard more shots being fired.

The state's attorney said that witness statements initially led to the wrong person being arrested.

All charges were eventually dropped against them, eventually leading to Jackson's arrest.

Jackson is due back in court next month.
