DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) -Â Police are continuing their search for the suspect involved in a shooting at the Old King's Orchard Community Center that sent one person to the hospital on Thursday.
Decatur police responded to reports of shots fired at the community center around 11 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found a 21-year-old man who had been shot. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and has since been released.
According to the Decatur Police Department, officers recovered seven shell casings from the scene. After interviewing several witnesses, they learned that an unidentified black male approached the community center and fired multiple shots, striking the victim.
Witnesses described the suspect as a black male wearing dark clothing and possibly carrying a backpack. He was last seen fleeing on foot heading west.Â
Police canvassed the neighborhood but were unable to locate the suspect.Â
DPD is requesting the public's assistance in identifying a person of interest observed in the area who matches the suspect description.
The investigation remains ongoing.
