Georgetown man sentenced to 18 years for predatory sexual assault of minor

GEORGETOWN, Ill. (WAND) - A 27-year-old man formerly from Georgetown has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for charges related to the sexual assault of a child.

According to the Vermilion County State's Attorney, on October 1, Logan Black pleaded guilty to predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, which is classified as a Class X felony.

On Wednesday, he was sentenced to 18 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, with the possibility of serving 85% of that time. Following his imprisonment, Black will be required to complete a term of mandatory supervised release, which can range from 3 years to life.

The prosecution presented evidence indicating that on August 31, 2024, the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of sexual abuse involving a minor. The minor reported separate incidents of sexual contact that occurred on September 7, 2023, and August 31, 2024.

Investigations and interviews were conducted by the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department, with assistance from the Vermilion County Child Advocacy Center.

In a victim impact statement, the victim’s mother described how the defendant groomed the victim over several years to gain their trust.

State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy said, “This child showed extraordinary courage by coming forward to tell the truth. Their bravery not only made justice possible in this case, but will help protect others from harm. My office is committed to giving victims a voice and holding those who prey on our most vulnerable citizens fully responsible."
