URBANA, Ill. (WAND) — One deputy has been placed on administrative leave following an Illinois State Police investigation into the misuse of funds at a pro-law enforcement foundation.
Matthew Stuckey speaking to a WAND News crew in 2021.
ISP said it started an investigation last November into allegations of misuse of funds made to the 10-78 Foundation, also known as Back the Blue Champaign County.Â
"After a thorough investigation, special agents found evidence of transactions consistent with personal use by [Matthew] Stuckey, one of the organizers of the 10-78 Foundation," said ISP in a news release.
Stuckey is an active Champaign County Sheriff’s Deputy.
WAND News reached out to the office, and Sheriff Dustin Heuerman confirmed Stuckey had been "placed on administrative leave per Merit Commission rules pending an administrative investigation by the Sheriff’s Office."
So far, Heuerman said there was no evidence that sheriff's office or county resources had been used in support of criminal activity.
ISP agents issued a notice to appear in Champaign County on May 22 to Stuckey, for theft of property over $10,000, but less than $100,000 (Class 2 Felony).
WAND News has reached out to the 10-78 Foundation for comment.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Illinois State Police Zone 5 Investigations at 217-278-5000.
ISP said the investigation will be turned over to the Champaign County State’s Attorney’s Office when completed.
