ATWOOD, Ill. (WAND) - A man is in jail after he was arrested for stealing a 74-year-old victim's identity in Atwood. 

The Atwood Police Department said that it received a tip about a man, later identified as 28-year-old Leland Coleman of Lynwood, trying to claim another package. 

Atwood police said Coleman took someone else's mail with their new debit card inside. 

According to police, Coleman then spent thousands of dollars across the state, like Champaign and Chicago, along with several places in Indiana. 

Coleman was arrested for aggravated identity theft of a victim over 60, and he was moved to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. 

The investigation is ongoing
