NEWMAN, Ill. (WAND) - A Douglas County man arrested for murder last year was sentenced to 80 years in prison. 

According to Douglas County court records, James Haynes will serve 100% of his term in the Illinois Department of Corrections. He will also receive credit for 570 days already served. 

Haynes was booked in the Douglas County Jail following a murder in Newman along the 300 block of S. Shirley St. on May 20, 2024.
He was denied pretrial release. A court document filed in May 2024 says that Haynes shot the victim in the head with a Glock 9mm handgun.
