CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — Police arrested a suspect in connection to a July 4 shooting in Champaign that left one man dead.

37-year-old Rynell Frazier was arrested on Thursday after police say he shot and killed Champaign resident Martez Jones.

According to police, Jones was outside of a business in the 1900 block of W. Bradley Avenue when Frazier shot at him. 

Champaign PD said Frazier ran, and Jones was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he died while going into surgery.

A warrant was issued for Frazier's arrest on July 4. He was not found until Thursday in Merrillville, Indiana. 

Officers said they are making arrangements to bring Frazier back to Champaign for arraignment.
