DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) —  A former Danville man has been sentenced to prison for an attack that damaged a woman's eye so badly that it had to be removed.

Prosecutors said that on Sept. 14, 2024 Danville police went to a home on Oak Street to speak with a victim about an attack involving 29-year-old Jeremy Brown.

The woman said Brown was leaving her apartment, but then re-entered and punched her in the face. He drove the victim to a hospital, but told medical staff that he accidentally elbowed her in the face, according to a release from the Vermilion County State's Attorney.

The victim had to be flown by helicopter to a hospital in St. Louis due to the severity of her injuries. The orbital bones around one of her eyes were broken, and she ultimately lost the eye as a result.

Brown pleaded guilty to aggravated domestic battery - great body harm, a class 2 Felony. Judge Mark S. Goodwin sentenced Brown to five years in prison. He must serve 85% of his sentence, and will be on supervised release for four years.

In a statement, State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy said, “The victim in this case endured unimaginable pain and lost her eye at the hands of this violent criminal. With the criminal case now resolved, we hope and pray that the victim can begin the true healing process. My office remains dedicated to seeking justice for victims of domestic violence in our community."
