MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) — A Mattoon High School employee is now facing sexual assault charges from 2017.
On Tuesday, the Mattoon Community Unit School District No. 2 announced that the district had been made aware of criminal charges filed against a Mattoon High School employee outside of Coles County.
That employee is Jace Logan, 27, of Mattoon. He is listed as paraprofessional at the school.
The Sullivan Police Department said he is charged with five counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving a teenage girl who was at least five years younger than Logan at the time. Logan would have been 18 at the time of alleged crimes.Â
"These charges stem from an extensive investigation by the Sullivan Police Department that was reported April 2024, of an incident that was alleged to have occurred in 2017 in Sullivan, Illinois located in Moultrie County," Sullivan police said.Â
The case was turned over to the State's Attorney's Appellate Prosecutor Office for Illinois review.Â
Aggravated criminal sexual abuse is a Class 2 Felony punishable by probation or 3-7 years in prison. It requires a lifetime registration for sex offender.Â
All people charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.Â
Logan is due in court at the end of April.Â
