Noah Olson

MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) - A Mattoon man was arrested for threatening public officials.

The Mattoon Police Department said in a July 22 press release that the incident began when Noah Olson, 29, called about a water leak in his apartment.

Olson reportedly hung up on dispatchers and called back three separate times, becoming more aggressive and agitated each time.

After Olson believed that officers had not arrived fast enough, he threatened a 911 dispatcher, saying that he would "kill everyone in the police department."

Officers arrived on the scene where Olson was said to be erratic in his behavior and threatened officers in person. The officers tried to de-escalate the situation when Olson retreated into his apartment, where he continued to scream at them and other residents in the building and from his window.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Olson for threatening a public official and disorderly conduct.

He was later arrested on this warrant and transported to the Coles County Jail, and remains in custody while awaiting a detention hearing.
