DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - The Danville City Council approved a grocery tax after the State eliminates the grocery tax.
The city comptroller said if the tax was not approved the city would have been forced to cut $750,000 from the budget.
Some members felt the new tax was not really "new" as the public had been paying for it at the State level. Meanwhile, others argued this was a chance to reduce taxes.
The council tabled a gas tax increase. It will be discussed at their regular December 16 meeting.
