DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The possibility of snow in the forecast has local cities and villages preparing for the potential of accumulation.
Rob Wagers, Municipal Services Operations Supervisor in Decatur, said street services started adding equipment to trucks in November. He explained, crews put salt spinners on and set the plows up to be used.Â
"When we know we are going to get any type of weather, we start preparing our trucks."
Wagers said every day he gets a detailed forecast that explains winter weather predictions and when crews should start filling trucks and spreading salt.Â
"Once we know something is coming we get a warning from our weather service and we start getting our trucks and people together."Â
As for salt supply, Wagers told WAND News the city didn't use all of the salt from last year, so it is prepared for snowfall this winter. There is even a secondary storage of salt near downtown Decatur.Â
The City of Decatur reminds citizens to be patient when it comes to snow removal. There are at least 18 trucks on the road when snow hits, and crews work through the night and during the day to make the roads safe.Â
Drivers are reminded not to crowd the plow and be alert when they see trucks out and about.Â
