SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Springfield police seized guns and made arrests over a three-day operation.Â
The Springfield Police Department Criminal Investigations Division – Crimes Against Persons and the Street Crimes Unit conducted several law enforcement operations during the week of January 11 to target gun and gang violence in the City of Springfield.
Officers and detectives of the Criminal Investigations Division conducted proactive details and served search warrants on known gang members within the city.
As a result, 11 guns were seized and five arrests were made in three days.Â
In a release, the department said, "It is the Springfield Police Department’s mission to take a proactive approach to combat violence in the City of Springfield, including firearm and gang related violence. The brave men and women of the Springfield Police Department will continue to work tirelessly each shift to make sure the city and it’s citizens are safe."
