DECATUR, IL. (WAND) A band of heavy snow moved through parts of Central Illinois this morning and brought with it some dangerous conditions. The north-eastern counties of our area experienced a Snow Squall Warning. This type of snow can cause total whiteout conditions. While very little accumulation was generated, it was a major threat to drivers on highways and interstates.

The squall weakened quickly as it moved southward, but this is a good reminder that we are nowhere close to done with the winter weather. Another chance of snow is moving in for Thursday evening and Friday morning. This system could again produce poor visibility areas across Central Illinois and cause some slick spots for anyone heading out late Thursday evening. Areas along I-57 and north of I-72 could see closer to an inch of snow, but some melting is anticipated as temperatures warm up for Friday.

Stay safe this weekend as dangerously cold temperatures move in. Overnight lows will be in the single digits with wind chill below 0 through Tuesday morning of next week.

Ameren reported outages in Vermilion County with close to 4,000 customers without power as of 10:45 a.m. Wednesday. Keep track of outages here.
