DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — A 23-year-old Decatur man has been sentenced to 85 years in prison for his part in a drive-by shooting that killed one teenager and injured another.

Dreylynn M. O'Neal was found guilty in the murder of 17-year-old Demeshiona Miller-Fonville this May.

A Macon County Jury also found him guilty of the attempted murder of a second teen who was injured in the shooting.

The shooting happened on Sept. 19, 2021 in the 1300 block of E. Walnut Street. Police found Miller-Fonville and another 17-year-old in a vehicle. Both had gunshot wounds to the head. They were taken to Springfield for treatment, but Miller-Fonville died from her injuries.

On Tuesday, O'Neal was sentenced to 50 years for the murder charge to be served at 100%. He was sentenced an additional 35 years for his other charges, to be served at 85%.
