Decatur man sentenced to life in prison for murder conspiracy

DECATUR - A Decatur man who was convicted of conspiring to murder a witness to an armed robbery will spend the remainder of his life behind bars.

In a news release, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Kelton Snyder, 24, was sentenced to life in prison.  Snyder was convicted in April 2016 of conspiring to murder Paige Mars, 19, following an April 3, 2015 armed robbery.  Prosecutors say Snyder met with his co-conspirator on April 5 to discuss killing Mars, the getaway driver in the robbery, as Snyder allegedly feared Mars would talk to police about the incident.

Mars' body was found near the Decatur sanitation district on April 6, 2015.

Snyder was already in custody prior to his conspiracy trial due to pleading guilty to the April 3, 2015 robbery and being in possession of a firearm while being a felon.

Snyder is ineligible for parole or early release.
