DECATUR - The Decatur Park District has been selected as a finalist for the 2016 National Gold Medal Awards for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management.

The announcement was made by officials from the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration, National Recreation and Park Association, and Musco Lightning.  Officials add that finalists are divided into categories dependent on community population, and that the Decatur Park District was placed into Class IV.

Finalists will be judged on their ability to address the needs of individuals they serve through the collective efforts of citizens, staff, and elected officials.  Winners will be announced in October.

The Gold Medal Awards program was founded in 1965, and aims to recognize communities that demonstrate excellence in parks and recreation.  For more information on the Gold Medal Awards, click here.
