DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Demolition is underway of the former Durfee School in Decatur.Â
The City of Decatur shared video of the demolition on its Facebook page Monday.Â
The former school sits at the corner of Jasper and Grand. Demolition was approved by the Decatur City Council along with the former Coppenbarger/Centennial School building, which came down a few weeks ago.
City staff described the state of the buildings as large public hazards and dangerous nuisances, and photos shown of the current conditions confirmed.
The cost of demolition is approximately $1.68 million, which will be paid from a city special projects reserve or from a combination of American Rescue Plan (ARPA) funds and special projects reserve.
