SANGAMON COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) – Police in two central Illinois towns are organizing donations for Hurricane Florence relief.
A press release says a number of items will be accepted by communities in Spaulding and Williamsville to support recovery efforts in Southport, N.C., after the storm. Spaulding Village Hall will take donations on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Police say more information about weekend donation times will be released at a later date.
WAND-TV placed a call with Williamsville police Monday to learn when and where people can take donations in that town. The station is waiting for a call back on Monday evening.
Williamsville Police Chief Richard Edwards knows how important donations can be, especially after a tornado dealt damage to the area in 2009.
“If we have extra stuff, we’ll hit a few other small communities and help them out where they need it and whatever we have, we’ll share it,” Edwards said.
Spaulding’s list of needed items includes:
- Bottled water
- Cleaning supplies
- Flashlights
- Batteries
- Trash bags
- Paper towels
- Baby wipes
- Diapers
- Personal products (toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner, feminine products, etc.)
- Non-perishable food items
- Toilet paper
- Dog/cat food
- Towels
- Wash clothes
- Laundry detergent
- Tarps
- Shovels
- Rakes
- Brooms
- Mops and buckets
Spaulding is not accepting used clothing because it does not have the means to wash those items at this time.
