CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - A week after a Champaign public school building was hit by gunfire, the school board is discussing ways to increase security in the building.
A shooting pierced the outside walls and shattered windows at Booker T. Washington STEM Academy Jan. 20.
Unit 4 Interim Superintendent Dan Casillas said administrators are considering adding a clear-armor film to exterior windows.
"What happened at Booker T. Washington was scary and tragic. It's something that we take very seriously, and we want to ensure we are doing everything we can to protect the students," Casillas said.
The board is expected to receive a formal proposal soon.
