SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Government officials came together Monday to sign the beam for the Springfield Transportation Hub and to give an update on construction.

Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski, one of the key lawmakers for the project, said that this will be a big investment to help Springfield and Sangamon County residents more than ever when completed.

"This is going to transform the county building. This is the part of really a bigger investment for Downtown Springfield when you partner in the rail relocation project. The Hub is going to be in the center of it all. So it is really just exciting to be here and to see and know this is going to come to completion in 2027," Budzinski said.

The Hub will be located on two blocks along the 10th Street Rail Corridor.

The project will also be a centralized location for transit and Greyhound buses, and Amtrak trains.
