CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The Champaign Unit 4 School District has released the results for the 2024-2025 Advanced Placement (AP) Exam scores.
The district reports significant growth in participation in AP exams, with consistently strong scores.
The Advanced Placement Program allows academically prepared students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school. This program offers the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both across more than 40 different courses, all culminating in an exam.
In 2024-2025, Unit 4 students took AP Exams in 24 different courses.
In 17 out of 24 courses, the mean score of Unit 4 surpassed both the Illinois Mean and the Global Mean. Additionally, the percentage of students scoring a 3 or above—indicative of college credit eligibility—was higher in 21 of those courses.
Overall, 79.3% of AP Exams taken by Unit 4 students earned scores of 3 or higher, up from 76.8% in the previous reporting period.
According to the Unit 4, in the graduating class of 2025, 30.9% achieved this benchmark on at least one AP exam during their high school years.
During the latest reporting period, 658 students from Unit 4 took at least one AP exam, marking an 8% increase from the previous year, resulting in a total of 1,152 AP exams taken, which is a 5% rise.
Unit 4 also shares that although the number of Black or African American students taking AP exams slightly decreased from the previous year, there was a 44% increase compared to a year earlier, while the number of Hispanic or Latino students taking exams rose by 15%.
“These results reflect the dedication and collaboration of our entire community—administrators, educators, students, and families,” noted David Reif, Director of Secondary Teaching and Learning at Unit 4 Schools. “Success in AP courses begins well before high school, and we're grateful for everyone who plays an integral role in laying that foundation.”
