TEUTOPOLIS, Ill. (WAND) - Effingham County Coroner Kim Rhodes has released an updated report on the deadly Teutopolis HAZMAT crash from September 29.Â
On that day around 8:40 p.m., the Effingham County Sheriff's Department and the Teutopolis Fire Department were called out for a crash on U.S. Route 40 just east of Teutopolis.Â
Crews found the crash site was unsafe due to a ruptured tanker leaking anhydrous ammonia.Â

Vehicles were abandoned at the scene as people ran on foot away from the crash site.Â
Traffic on I-70 was shut down due to a crash in the construction zone which resulted in drivers being re-routed onto Route 40.Â

Final an official autopsy reports were released for the five people who died from respiratory failure due to inhalation and exposure to anhydrous ammonia.Â
This included severe chemical burns to the entire body, respiratory system, face, eyes, and lungs.Â
Those who died were:Â
- Danny J. Smith, 67, New Haven, MissouriÂ
- Vasile Cricovan, 31, Twinsburg, Ohio
- Kenneth Bryan, 34, Teutopolis, and his two children
- Rosie Bryan, 7, Beecher City, Illinois
- Walker Bryan, 10, Beecher City, IllinoisÂ
Seven people were severely injured due to the chemical leak. They are all still suffering chemical burns to the eyes, lungs, and respiratory systems, Rhodes reports.Â
Those people were identified as:Â
- Terrie Tudor, 61, Union, Missouri - critical condition in hospital
- John Costello, 19, Olathe, Kansas - critical condition in hospitalÂ
- Sara Tague, 18, Lake Elmo, Minnesota - discharged
- Anja Dangelmaier, 18, Arlington, Texas - discharged
- Jacob Bloemker, 24, Brownstown, Illinois - discharged
- Weston Hemmerling, 18, Kansas City, Kansas - discharged
- Charlie Whitt, 66, Green Castle, Indiana - dischargedÂ
The crash is still under investigation by the Illinois State Police and the National Transportation Safety Board.Â
