EFFINGHAM, Ill. -- A new gas station selling some of the cheapest gas in Central Illinois is causing a "gas war" around town.

People were pumping non-stop at the Phillips 66 gas station on S. Banker St. Wednesday evening. The gas station's grand opening gas prices are the talk of the town.

At $3.19 per gallon, Larry Christensen drove all the way from Mattoon to fuel up.

"What cost me $74 would probably have been $85 in Mattoon," Christensen said, "So it's worth the drive down here to fill up."

But Phillips 66 wasn't the only place with a steal. Just down the street, both Marathon and BP were also selling gas at $3.19.

Several miles away, stations on the city's north side were selling gas as high as $3.37.
