NORMAL, Ill. (WAND) — The Normal Fire Department posted on its Facebook page on New Year's Day that if you still have a live Christmas tree in your house, you should toss it to the curb.
The department said that even if you properly water the tree, time still plays a role. So, now that tree is an extreme fire hazard.
The department included a Sparky the Fire Dog post stating that 36% of tree fires happen in January.
