TUSCOLA, Ill. (WAND) - Flesor's Candy Kitchen in Tuscola is turning to the public for help after learning it will need $250,000 for crucial building work.

Flesor's won a $40,000 grant last year from the National Trust for Historic Preservation to replace rotten wood and leaky windows in the facade of the first building.

"When our carpenter started removing the damaged materials, we were hit with a ton of bricks - literally. We discovered our 1871 building is suffering from structural damage: rotted wooden beams, bowing walls, loose and falling brick. If we ignore it, we will lose the building and our iconic business," Flesor's posted to Facebook.

Saving the business will cost around $250,000.

"This additional financial obligation is a huge burden, especially after losses during the pandemic and after 'buying out' sister’s half of the business," Flesor's added.

Flesor's said the store will have to be rearranged during the process. Plans are for work to start in June. There is no projection for how long the work would take.

The business will remain open during the process.

A Go Fund Me has been set up to help raise funds for the building work. The account has already raised over $12,000.
