CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The University of Illinois helped nearly 300 students at the Gies College of Business declare their majors at their annual Signing Day event.

The event allowed students to speak with Larry Gies, the school's namesake while thanking their family and friends for their support on the special day.

"I think just making it official was really exciting and just knowing like Larry Gies said, it's set in stone now like this is what I'm going to pursue. I'm just really excited to continue pursuing that." said sophomore, Naina Shankar.

The Director of Communications at Gies College of Business believes it's an important celebration for students because a lot of students don't get to experience moments like this.

"It's just the feeling of this is a special place that cares about them and they can celebrate little things that a lot of places don't celebrate it." said Aaron Bennett.
