GIRARD, Ill. (WAND) - A Girard nursing home will be closing its doors.
The Pleasant Hill Healthcare nursing facility will close on September 1.
The Board of Directors announced the independent and assisted living apartments will continue to serve seniors in the Girard and Macoupin County area.
Staff will work with families to relocate current skilled nursing and memory care residents to other facilities.
"The Home" was founded in 1905 as a refuge for seniors and orphans in need.
In 1976, a new nursing home was built and licensed for 98 skilled care residents, becoming Pleasant Hill Healthcare.
Officials said the reason for the closure is finances.
The State of Illinois owes Pleasant Hill Healthcare over $2 million in approved and pending applications.
The state is currently paying $128.48 a day per resident. However, the cost of providing quality care is $160 a day per resident, Pleasant Hill reports.
