Gold coins donated in Salvation Army event

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – The Salvation Army collected two gold coins while ringing bells in Decatur.

It’s unknown who the donation came from or what the coins are worth. As the Salvation Army works to figure the value out, they’ll continue to ring bells, with a community event coming up to keep raising money.

The “Gurneys, Guns and Hoses” bell ringing event is coming up on Dec. 14-15. Fire departments form Macon County and Decatur, the Macon County Sheriff’s Office, Decatur police and ambulance workers will be taking part to see who can raise the most money.

All donations will be matched up to $25,000, a Salvation Army bulletin says.

Bell-ringing locations can be found in the Salvation Army notice, which is attached to this story.
