CHARLESTON, Ill. (WAND) — The Charleston Police Department has found that a local business that was robbed last week was a made-up report.Â
Charleston police got a report of a business robbery just after 1 p.m. Jan. 21 in the 500 block of 6th Street. That is across from the Coles County Courthouse.
Officers responded to reports of a man who went into a business, approached the owner, and grabbed cash out of the register before walking out.
According to the Charleston Police Department, the man claimed to have a weapon, but no weapon was shown and nobody was hurt.
Charleston police said Monday that they received a confession that no robbery had taken place and have concluded their investigation.Â
