BETHANY, Ill. (WAND)- The Decatur Fire Department assisted Bethany PD and Bethany water treatment operators with a HAZMAT situation Monday morning.

According to Decatur Fire, crews were called out to the 800 block of Robinson St. in Bethany for a report of a chlorine leak around 11:18 a.m.

The Decatur HAZMAT team, equipped with 10 technician level personnel, arrived on the scene to mitigate the hazardous leak.

Officials said initial responders entered the scene in fully encapsulated Level "A" HAZMAT suits to establish hazard zones.

The operation required two teams, each consisting of two personnel, to successfully contain and address the chlorine leak.

Crews were able to mitigate the incident without further escalation.
