DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A homeowner and three children had to be relocated after a house fire in Decatur Sunday night.
The Decatur Fire Department was called to the 1600 block of E. Hickory St. just before 11:30 p.m. When crews got there, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from a rear bedroom window.
Firefighters tackled the fire through the front door and were met with limited visibility and high heat. They were able to use a handline at the back of the home to get the fire under control.
One adult and three children lived there, but they were not inside the home at the time of the fire. The family had to be relocated and is being helped by the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
