DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - There are two rules to Thanksgiving: don't run out of food and don't say anything that will ruin dinner.

It is easy to get into a fuss with someone during the holidays, but Thanksgiving is a chance to have a great meal. One can catch up with family and friends. What's supposed to be good time can easily get messed up. Sometimes, the wrong conversation can ruin the vibe.

Central Illinoisans don't want to deal with all the hubbub, and politics can naturally delve into conversations for some households. People told WAND News politics, relationships and money are a few topics they would rather not get into. One person said those kind of topics can bring up "unsurfaced issues" that could cause a scene.

Instead, Central Illinoisans suggested talking about Christmas, sports and what one is thankful for.

Hopefully, Thanksgiving won't turn into a verbal joust.
