(WAND) - Illinois State Police are warning drivers across the state to use extreme caution if you have to be on the roads today.

Conditions are getting worse as time goes on. Freezing rain conditions are resulting in sheets of ice across roads.

>>Businesses and government offices closed due to icy roads

ISP reports "dozens upon dozens" of slide offs and crashes across the state.

Trooper Josh Robinson told WAND Monday morning, "We are seeing all across the state, but especially to the eastern part and the southeastern part, over around the metro-east, filtering up into Springfield, Decatur, Champaign, and it's working its way east... we are starting to see roadways that maybe just appear wet, but of course now it is actually ice."

>>School Closings

"If you don't need to be out, just don't be."

Between 6:30 and 7:15 this morning, Maroa Fire responded to three vehicles that were in the ditch.
