(WAND) - The Illinois State Police is warning people of a text scam going around.
The scam comes in the form of a text message claiming to be an "Illinois State Police - Traffic Compliance Enforcement Bulletin."
It gives an incident number and claims there is a vehicular conduct violation tied to your registered automobile.
It threatens people with their license being withdrawn.
The Illinois State Police does not send text messages demanding immediate payment or threatening enforcement action.
If you get a message like this, ISP said do not click any links. Do not reply “Y” or provide personal information.
Delete the message and report it as spam.
Verify any traffic or vehicle matters through official state websites only.
Scammers often use fake websites and urgent language to pressure victims into paying quickly.
