CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — The Champaign County Area Rural Transit System (C-CARTS) will add seven new vehicles to their fleet after a nearly five-year wait.
In March, the transit system added three 14-passenger busses, which were put into service in April.
Four more vehicles were awarded to C-CARTS through a grant in May. The organization says they will be added to the fleet soon.
C-CARTS says more than three quarters of their vehicles were running with over 250,000 miles each.
The fleet has been expecting 11 total new vehicles since late 2020, but the additions were delayed due to supply chain issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.Â
"The C-CARTS staff is very excited to be able to better service our riders with these newest vehicles and look forward to our continued growth as Champaign County's rural transit system," C-CARTS wrote in a news release.
